The F220SMA-C by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line fiber collimated package that has been pre-aligned to deliver diffraction-limited performance, making it the perfect addition to an existing setup. With no movable parts, the F220SMA-C boasts a compact design that is easy to integrate and optimized for use in fiber-coupled detection systems.

The F220SMA-C features an aspheric lens that has an effective focal length (EFL) that is wavelength dependent, due to chromatic aberration. Specifically designed for use with SMA905-terminated single mode fiber patch cables, this collimated package is factory aligned for collimation at 1310 nm and is optimized for ideal beam divergence. With AR coating on both sides of the aspheric lens, surface reflections are minimized, ensuring maximum efficiency.

While the operating temperature range for the F220SMA-C is between -40 °C to 93 °C, it is important to note that the collimated package is best suited for use with small-core, low-NA, multimode fiber optic patch cables. For enhanced performance, it is recommended to use compatible AR-coated multimode patch cables, which feature a coating that is antireflective on the end of one fiber for improved transmission and return loss at the fiber-to-free-space interface. To mount the F220SMA-C, it is recommended to use a compatible collimator mounting adapter that provides pitch and yaw adjustment. This will allow the user to achieve the optimal positioning and alignment for a setup, ensuring that the user gets the best performance possible.
