The F280APC-C by ThorLabs is a high-performance fiber collimation package that offers excellent optical performance and convenience. The F280APC-C is designed to collimate light from an FC/APC-terminated fiber with a performance that is diffraction-limited, which makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of scientific and industrial applications.

One of the main benefits of the F280APC-C is that it does not have moveable parts, which makes it compact and provides easy integration into an existing setup. The package consists of an aspheric lens that is factory-aligned for collimation at the alignment wavelength when connected to its specified single-mode fiber patch cable. The aspheric lens also features an AR coating on both sides that minimizes surface reflections, enhancing overall optical performance. It is essential to note that the effective focal length (EFL) of the aspheric lens is wavelength dependent due to chromatic aberration. The wavelength of the collimation package indicates the wavelength of ideal beam divergence. However, for some applications, the F280APC-C can also be used at other wavelengths within the AR coating range.

The F280APC-C is constructed with non-magnetic stainless steel housing, making it compatible with FC/APC connectors and simplifying fiber-coupled detection systems. This fiber collimation package operates at a temperature range of -40 °C to 93 °C, making it suitable for use in various environments. For improved performance, it is recommended to use this collimator with AR-coated single-mode fiber optic patch cables. These cables feature an antireflective coating on the end of one fiber, which increases transmission and reduces return loss at the fiber-to-free-space interface.
