The F810SMA-543 by ThorLabs is a high-performance SMA collimation package, designed to achieve diffraction-limited performance at the 543 nm wavelength. The F810SMA-543 is pre-aligned and specifically optimized to collimate a laser beam emanating from the tip of an FC/APC, FC/PC, or SMA terminated fiber. Unlike other collimators in the market, the F810SMA-543 does not contain any movable parts, which makes it a highly compact device that is not susceptible to misalignment.
It is important to note that the effective focal length of the doublet lens is wavelength dependent, and therefore, the F810SMA-543 is designed to perform optimally at the designated wavelength. The doublet lens is factory aligned for the wavelength and features an antireflection coating that minimizes surface reflections, resulting in enhanced optical performance. The receptacles for the FC/APC versions of the F810SMA-543 are angled to ensure that light exiting the fiber enters the collimator perpendicular to the focal plane. This feature ensures maximum light coupling efficiency, which leads to superior collimation performance.
The F810SMA-543 is highly recommended for use with AR-coated single-mode fiber optic patch cables. These cables feature a coating that is antireflective on one fiber end for increased transmission and improved return loss at the fiber-to-free-space interface. The collimator is optimized for single-mode fibers and is compatible with SMA-terminated hybrid single-mode fiber optic patch cables. In case of uncoated fiber patch cables, they can also be used with the F810SMA-543.
