The GIF625 by ThorLabs is a graded-index (GRIN) multimode fiber that offers exceptional performance for a wide range of applications. With a standard 62.5 µm core diameter and a 125 µm cladding diameter, this fiber is designed to deliver superior performance compared to traditional multimode step-index fibers. The GIF625 is designed to minimize modal dispersion and bend loss, providing an 800 to 1600 nm extensive operating wavelength range. This fiber has a numerical aperture of 0.275 and very low attenuation of ≤0.6 dB/km at 1300 nm.
One of the key advantages of the GIF625 is its larger core size compared to single mode fiber. This larger core size translates into higher transmission capacity, making it ideal for high-speed transmission applications and short-range communication networks. The fiber has a core size of Ø62.5 μm, which makes it both low-loss and high-bandwidth. The dual-layer acrylate coating on the fiber provides excellent protection against humidity, temperature, and water extremes. This coating ensures that the fiber remains in optimal condition even under harsh environmental conditions. The GIF625 is pre-spooled in either a 100 m or 1 km length, making it easy to deploy in a wide range of applications.
