The MAX350D/M by ThorLabs is a fiber launch system that works as an innovative solution for aligning and positioning bare single mode fiber, lensed fiber, or sleeved fibers. The high-resolution differential adjusters are a great feature of the MAX350D/M, allowing the user to perfectly couple a free-space laser into a single mode fiber. This makes it ideal for precision alignment or positioning tasks, as well as general laboratory purposes.
With a parallel flexure design, the MAX350D/M offers exceptional performance and flexibility for applications requiring sub-micron resolution or better. It features fixed differential drives that offer 4 mm of coarse travel and 300 μm of fine travel with a resolution of 50 nm per revolution. This highly precise travel features engraved graduations that offer a reliable reference point for applications requiring absolute positioning.
Moreover, the MAX350D/M is compatible with a v-groove hexagonal holder that can accommodate fibers ranging from Ø125 µm to Ø2.66 mm. It has a compact design of 157.4 mm x 160.4 mm x 62.5 mm, including actuators with an enhanced long-term stability. One of the most impressive features of the MAX350D/M is its ability to perform fiber coupling even in the visible spectrum, where the mode field diameter of fiber may be as small as 3 µm. The quick-release fiber holder comes with six support surfaces, catering to a variety of fiber sizes. Additionally, the inclusion of a cable strain relief is beneficial to prevent inadvertent disruption of the system.
The preconfigured system of the MAX350D/M is an ideal starter system, which can be quickly adapted to many uses through the use of additional flexure stage accessories. However, to ensure that a specific stage is properly driven by the MAX350D/M, a number of parameters must first be set. These parameters are related to the physical components of the stage in motion. To ensure that these parameters are set accurately, the user can connect a specific stage type and axis to the motor controller channel for additional help. Once this association has been made, the server applies automatically, suitable default parameter values are available upon turning on the software.
