The PAF2A-15B by ThorLabs is a FiberPort, which serves as the ultimate solution for both long- and short-term fiber coupling and collimation needs. This compact fiber collimator and coupler comes equipped with six degrees of freedom, including five axes and rotation, making it a highly versatile and adaptable tool for a variety of applications.

The PAF2A-15B is built with a high-resolution alignment mechanism, which ensures reliable and precise alignment every time. Its translation locking mechanisms and high thermal stability make it a standout option in the market, providing users with unparalleled stability and repeatability. The PAF2A-15B's body comprises a magnetic lens cell (MLC) attached to a tilt plate, as well as a bulkhead with a fiber connector. The bulkhead is locked onto the FiberPort body by three flat head screws and a clamp plate, which allows for easy rotation and coarse alignment of the fiber bulkhead with polarization-maintaining fiber. The robust PAF2A-15B system uses a movable lens to accurately align and hold the fibers in place, resulting in stable and consistent coupling and collimating capabilities.

The MLC of the PAF2A-15B is adhered to the tilt plate, which can be translated in the Z direction via equal adjustments of the three adjusters. These adjusters consist of three ball-end fine adjust screws labeled Zθ1, Zθ2, and Zθ3, which ride in ceramic ball seats. The hardened steel ball-ends and ceramic ball seats are attached with a high temperature, low-outgassing epoxy, providing a stable, long-wearing kinematic system. In addition, the PAF2A-15B's MLC can be translated in X-Y using the socket head cap screws (SHCS) located on the side of the FiberPort body. The X-Y adjusters are stabilized by 0-80 setscrews with a 0.028" hex, removing backlash, and accessible from the top of the FiberPort. A third SHCS behind the leaf spring can be used for locking.

The PAF2A-15B contains four #2 counterbores that provide mechanical compatibility with FiberBench accessories, and adapters can be used to utilize the FiberPort with Ø1/2" posts, 30 mm cage systems, and HeNe lasers. To achieve maximum theoretical coupling efficiency, we recommend using the PAF2A-15B with AR-coated single mode, multimode, or polarization-maintaining fiber optic patch cables, as these patch cables reduce back reflections from high-powered sources. Finally, the PAF2A-15B comes equipped with a dust cap, a 0-80 locking screw, a 0.028" hex key for the locking screw, a 0.050" hex key for the Zθ, X, and Y adjusters, and an SPW403 spanner wrench for the Zθ locking collars, making it a truly comprehensive and user-friendly tool for all the user's fiber coupling and collimation needs.
