The PAFA-X-4-C by ThorLabs is a state-of-the-art achromatic FiberPort designed to provide efficient and reliable collimation of light over a wide wavelength range with minimal focal length shift. This feature makes it an ideal choice for various laser-based fluorescence experiments. The compact design of the PAFA-X-4-C, combined with its ultra-stable alignment and locking mechanism, makes it a perfect solution for both fiber coupling and collimation.

The PAFA-X-4-C is a six-degree-of-freedom fiber coupler and collimator, with five axes of movement and rotation. This system utilizes a dynamic lens to sustain the optical fiber in place while providing perfect alignment, guaranteeing an exceptionally steady and reproducible basis for collimation and coupling. All adjustments are coupled, ensuring precise and hassle-free alignment. The device comprises a body, a Magnetic Lens Cell (MLC) adhered to a tilt plate, and a bulkhead with fiber connector. The body of the PAFA-X-4-C has three flat head screws and a clamp plate that securely holds the bulkhead in place. To rotate the bulkhead freely, simply loosen the flat head screws.

On the exterior of the PAFA-X-4-C body, there are X-Y lens adjustment screws at 3 and 12 o’clock. These are accompanied by three plunger screws that give an opposing force for the tilt plate. The Z/q/j adjustments for the PAFA-X-4-C is provided with three SHCS. These screws, along with the X-Y screws, are the only screws typically used in the alignment of the FiberPort. However, the plunge screws can also be used to adjust the tension on the tilt plate if necessary. Additionally, the bulkhead and clamp plate are held into place on the face of the FiberPort with three flat head screws. Additionally, the bulkhead can be rotated a full 360° and secured at any angle for PM applications.

One of the remarkable features of the PAFA-X-4-C is its compatibility with both FC/PC and FC/APC connectors. The FiberPort's 5-axis adjustment, combined with its short focal length, leads to negligible sensitivity to off-axis input, making it a versatile and reliable device. Finally, on the outer diameter of the body of the PAFA-X-4-C at the 7:30 position is a locking screw and is only used after the FiberPort has been aligned, providing an additional layer of security and stability.
