The ThorLabs OCM1300SSE-SP is a state-of-the-art Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) Engine designed for use in the OCM1300SS SS-OCT imaging system. The OCM1300SSE-SP is specially designed for applications that require a laser capable of sweeping over a broad wavelength range with extremely high speed. The broad wavelength tuning range is essential for achieving high image resolution, while the high tuning speed is necessary for video rate imaging speed of more than 20 fps.
With a sweeping capability of at least 100 nm at a 16 kHz repetition rate, the OCM1300SSE-SP delivers more than 10mW of average optical power out of an SMF28 single mode fiber, providing high-quality images. The coherence length of 6mm makes it perfect for industrial and biomedical applications, and it is based on a patented external cavity laser diode design. One of the standout features of the OCM1300SSE-SP is its ability to operate from AC line voltages ranging from 100-240 VAC at 50-60Hz. This eliminates the need for configuration and makes installation a breeze. The computer's line select switch, located next to the AC input port at the rear panel of the computer, allows for the selection of the proper AC line voltage before installing the AC line cord.
The SS-OCT technology utilized with the OCM1300SSE-SP is based on a rapidly tuned narrowband source that illuminates the interferometer. The system records the information with a single photodetector. This technology, like optical frequency domain reflectometry, measures the time delay and magnitude of reflected light in order to construct A-scan depth profiles of the image sample. Then, in order to create an 3D image, adjacent A-scans can be synthesized. Advanced data acquisition and digital signal processing techniques are employed in the SS-OCT system to enable real-time video rate OCT imaging.
The OCM1300SSE-SP's SS-OCT technology generates high-speed depth profiles at the laser sweeping rate while collecting interference signals from the sample using a high-efficiency balanced detection scheme. The 5-6 mm coherence length of the laser enables the approximate 3 mm depth measurement range of the reflected signal without significant decay in the system detection sensitivity. This imaging system provides simultaneous multiple imaging channels for microscopic viewing of the sample. The enface images can be acquired from the CCD channel, while the cross-sectional images that show the sample's internal structure are acquired from the OCT channel. Due to the novel data acquisition and signal processing methods employed, real-time video-rate imaging speed has been achieved on both channels.
