The BC106-VIS from ThorLabs is a Camera Beam Profiler that is utilized in optimizing laser systems. Unlike scanning split profilers, the BC106-VIS provides a true 2D analysis of the beam’s power density distribution, which is essential for identifying complex mode patterns when optimizing a laser system. With its advanced capabilities, the BC106-VIS is an ideal solution for simultaneous power and beam shape optimization without requiring an external power meter. Additionally, it can measure continuous wave or pulsed beams of any frequency and its several trigger modes allow for flexible capturing of single pulses.
The BC106-VIS is equipped with a filter wheel containing four absorptive neutral density (ND) optical attenuation filters made from glass. These filters allow for quick and easy adaptation of the light source power to a level within the dynamic range of the CCD camera, preventing saturation of the camera. The filter wheel also makes it simple to adapt the profiler to beam intensities ranging from femtowatts to 1 W without the need for additional equipment. The filters are designated for the visible and near-infrared wavelength range of 305 - 1100 nm. The BC106-VIS has a maximum input power range of 550 nm in wavelength, making it a powerful tool in measuring visible light.
Compared to CMOS-based beam profilers, the BC106-VIS offers excellent sensitivity and low noise. It also features enhanced global shutter efficiency for improved exposure accuracy and uniformity, as well as automatic dark level calibration. The BC106-VIS's Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface allows up to 10 frames per second at full resolution, providing fast and efficient measurements. Measurements at higher frame rates can be achieved with reduced frame sizes, making it a versatile tool in optimizing laser systems. With dimensions of 80 mm x 80 mm x 36.5 mm and a weight of 310 g, the BC106-VIS is compact and easy to use.
