The ThorLabs CCS175 is a fiber-based, Czerny-Turner compact CCD spectrometer that contains no moving parts and is designed for general laboratory use, educational applications, and fiber-based systems. Its compact size of 122 mm x 79 mm x 29.5 mm, which is similar to a portable hard drive, makes it ideal for portable applications without sacrificing features of larger and more expensive spectrometers. The features that the CCS175 share with larger spectrometers include the ability to automatically compensate for dark current noise and the capability to be synchronized using a TTL trigger input of a maximum of 100 Hz. In addition, the device offers a range of functions, such as averaging, smoothing, peak indexing, and saving and recalling data sets.
The CCS175 is calibrated using a patch cable and is designed for the wavelength range of 500 nm - 1000 nm in its CCD chips, grating, and lenses. It features two 1/4"-20 taps, which are separated by 1” and located on the bottom of the device, enabling it to be securely mounted with ease. The device can also be connected to a high-speed 1.5 m USB cable that allows for up to 200 scans per second, a SMB-to-BNC adapter cable for external trigger signals, and a multimode fiber optic patch cable with attached SMA905 connectors. When connected to compatible cosine connectors, diffusers at the input apertures of the CCS175 allow it to be used for free-space measurements.
The CCS175 is compatible with a software package that includes a graphical user interface (GUI) and extensive set of drivers. The GUI allows the user to display the spectra, background, and peaks data all in a single window, if necessary. The software package includes diverse algorithms that can be applied for calculating absorption and transmission, averaging, or smoothing functions. Moreover, measurements gleaned from the GUI can be compared with other stored profiles. The drivers software allows for complete control over the functions featured on the device, enabling the user to design an interface software unique to them or to establish automated testing through the integration of the device with a measurement and test setup.
