The ThorLabs DET10A2 is a high-quality silicon detector specifically designed for the detection of light signals in the 200 nm to 1100 nm range. This detector comes complete with an internal 12 V bias battery and a photodiode enclosed in a rugged aluminum housing, providing durability and longevity for various measurements. Additionally, the DET10A2 features a removable 1" optical coupler (SM1T1) that allows for easy mounting of fiber adapters, spectral filters, ND filters, and other compatible 1" stackable lens mount accessories.

The DET10A2 has a slim housing, which allows it to easily fit into tight setups. The device has a wide bandwidth DC-coupled output and utilizes fast PIN photodiodes, which makes it ideal for fast pulsed laser monitoring as well as DC optical source monitoring. To measure the anode current in a photodiode, a BNC connector located on the side panel can be used. This current can be converted to voltage by attaching a terminating resistor. To ensure reliable transmission of high-speed signals, it is recommended to use a 50 Ω load resistor. In contrast, for lower bandwidth applications, an adjustable or stub-style terminator can be used to quickly adjust the measured voltage. Moreover, unlike other amplified photodetectors, the DET10A2 does not have amplifiers or built-in gain, enabling it to operate at higher speeds.

Another advantage of the DET10A2 is that its connections and controls are located away from the light path, simplifying integration of the detector in enclosed spaces. The device has internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threading and external SM1 (1.035"-40) threading, as well as a detachable Ø1" optic mount that allows for Ø1" optical components to be mounted along the optical axis. The DET10A2 can also be mounted into a cage system, lens tube system, or onto a Ø1/2" optical post, making it versatile and adaptable to a variety of setups. Additionally, the detector can be operated in both photoconductive and photovoltaic mode. One important consideration when using the DET10A2 is that inhomogeneities at the edges of the active area of the detector can generate unwanted capacitance and resistance effects that distort the time-domain response of the photodiode output. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the incident light on the photodiode is well centered on the active area to prevent this.
