The ThorLabs DET10C is a high-quality InGaAs detector that is designed for the detection of light signals in the wavelength range of 900 nm to 1700 nm. The DET10C features an internal 12 V bias battery enclosed in a rugged aluminum housing and a photodiode, ensuring durability and reliability in various environments.

One of the standout features of the DET10C is its removable 1" optical coupler, which allows for easy mounting of fiber adapters, ND filters, spectral filters, and more, making it a flexible solution for a wide range of applications. The DET10C features an intrinsic junction photodiode which functions similarly to a regular signal diode. When it gets exposed to light, it generates a photocurrent coming from the depleted region of the junction semiconductor. This results in a fast, highly linear device with high quantum efficiency, making it ideal for monitoring fast pulsed lasers as well as DC optical sources.

The DET10C offers both photovoltaic and photoconductive modes of operation, allowing users to choose the mode that best fits their application's speed requirements and tolerance for dark current. Unlike some other photodetectors, the DET10C does not have built-in amplifiers or gain, which allows it to operate at higher speeds. However, for applications that require gain or switchable filters, a photodetector with a PDA amplifier may be a more suitable choice.

The DET10C features a slim housing with connections and controls located away from the light path, making it easy to integrate into enclosed spaces. It also includes internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threading and external SM1 (1.035"-40) threading, as well as a detachable Ø1" Optic Mount (SM1T1) that allows for easy mounting of Ø1" optical components such as filters and lenses along the optical axis. The detector can also be mounted in a cage system, lens tube system, or on a Ø1/2" optical post, providing versatility in how it can be integrated into an optical setup. Additionally, the housing of the DET10C features two 8-32 tapped holes, further enhancing its ease of use.

The DET10C is reverse-biased by an A23 12 VDC battery that is incorporated into the housing, and it includes a red button that, when held down, applies the battery's voltage across the external load. This provides a convenient way to test the battery's voltage without removing it from the housing, making it easy to determine if the battery needs to be replaced. An in-line current-limiting resistor prevents fast battery drainage if the battery is tested while connected to a 50 Ω load, ensuring efficient use of the battery.
