The FGA04 by ThorLabs is an advanced InGaAs photodiode that is engineered to provide precise measurement of both continuous wave (CW) and pulsed fiber light sources. Designed to convert optical power to an electrical current, the FGA04 is housed in a TO-46 package that includes an case connection, cathode, anode, and is conveniently mounted in a FC bulkhead connector.
The FGA04 is engineered with a photodiode anode that generates a current proportional to the wavelength and light power on the incident. To estimate the amount of photocurrent to expect, the FGA04's responsivity, which is a function of wavelength, can be read. The generated current can be converted to voltage by using a load resistor (RL) between the photodiode anode and the circuit ground. The diode capacitance (CJ) and the load resistance (RL) determine both the rise time response (tR) and bandwidth (fBW). Placing a bias voltage to the circuit ground to the photodiode cathode, will lower the diode capacitance. In addition, the FGA04 boasts direct FC/PC coupling and high responsivity, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
