The IS200 by ThorLabs is a general-purpose integrating sphere that is used for high-sensitive measurements of optical signals applications. It is specifically designed to be used in various applications such as laser power, reflectance, radiance, and flux measurements. The IS200 is an ideal choice due to its advanced integrating sphere technology that evenly spreads incoming light by multiple reflections over the entire sphere surface.
The IS200 is constructed with a high-reflective bulk material based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which offers high reflectance in the 250 - 2500 nm wavelength range. This material makes the IS200 resistant to heat, humidity, and high levels of radiation. The reflective surface coats the light-diffusing cavities of the integrating sphere, providing a specific roughness and diffusing reflection properties. The white appearance of the IS200 is a result of this reflective surface. To maintain the durability of the IS200, it is recommended to clean the inner surface of the integrating spheres only with compressed air.
The IS200 is compatible with SM05/SM1 and 30 mm cage systems. It features a specially arranged port for direct connection of SM05PD photodiodes that are available for a wide wavelength range and both anode and cathode grounded polarities. The design of the IS200 prevents direct irradiation of the detector even under large divergent input beams. Additionally, the IS200 has 3 input ports and 1 output port, featuring SM05 (0.535"-40) threading, and can be equipped with reflective-coated port plugs, fiber adapters, or any SM05-threaded component. Post mounting the IS200 is also possible via the 8-32 (M4) tapped hole on the bottom of the unit.
It is important to note that the IS200 does not include a photodiode. However, a SM05PD series photodiode can be mounted to the output port of these integrating spheres by using the included SM05L05 lens tube. Ultraviolet and blue fluorescence emitted through the PTFE coating on integrating spheres and sample substitution errors should be considered when using the IS200 and analyzing data results. Over intensity of fluorescence and distortion of the absolute spectrum value can skew data, causing the IS200 to generate inaccurate results. With dimensions of 61 mm x 61 mm x 65 mm and a weight of 0.5 kg, the IS200 is compact, lightweight, and easy to use.
