The PA560 by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line polarimeter device used to collect accurate measurements of the polarization of light beams. Operating at a 900 nm -1100nm wavelength range, this polarimeter boasts an active diameter of ∅5.0mm and a Germanium Photodiode sensor. Optimized features of the PA560 ensure the device makes accurate and precise measurements for a range of applications.
Display flexibility is one of the key highlights of the PA560, as various measurements are grouped and displayed in separate windows. The user can activate or deactivate these windows, position them, and size them individually according to their preference. The Gain Control window is another impressive feature of the PA560, which allows users to control and monitor gain values at any time. The scope window operates like a simplified oscilloscope, displaying the signal analyzed by measurement calculations. This function is especially useful for system calibration purposes.
The PA560 features two graphical display windows - the Poincaré Sphere and the Polarization Ellipse - that serve various purposes. The Poincaré Sphere, the most complex and most viewed of all the windows, provides a pseudo-3D approximation of the effective state of polarization exhibited by the incident beam. The most unique feature of this window is that users can open up to five Poincaré Sphere windows simultaneously, eliminating the need to change the sphere's orientation to track varying polarization states. The Polarization Ellipse window displays numerical data viewed in the "Ellipticity" window, along with several customizable parameters affecting the graphical display.
Operating the PA560 is a breeze with its local or remote mode. In local mode, the system can be used without a PC and the keypad on the front panel of the console is used to input data and commands using easy-to-use arrow keys and a menu button. Switching between modes is effortless and can be done at any time using a "Local Key" configuration found on the bottom right-hand corner of the console control pad. Additionally, the PA560 checks several parameters during measurement calculations to ensure it is operating within defined limits, providing accurate measured results. If the system is operating outside of these limits, a warning message is displayed.
