The PDA10D by ThorLabs is the ultimate InGaAs fixed gain amplified detector designed to detect light in the wavelength range of 800 nm to 2600 nm. Whether pulsed or continuous wave (CW) light source measurements are needed, the PDA10D is the ideal solution. With its convenient mounting options for compatible optics, apertures, light filters, and cage accessories, it offers unparalleled versatility for the light detection needs of the user.

The PDA10D is designed with user-friendly features that ensure ease of use and reliable performance. Its housing includes a retaining ring and a threaded coupler that is removeable and compatible with various 1" threaded accessories. It also features internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threading and external SM1 (1.035"-40) threading, providing seamless integration into an existing setup. The PDA10D is equipped with a linear ±12 V power supply that supports input voltages of 100, 120, and 230 VAC, but be sure to set the line voltage switch on the power supply module to the appropriate voltage range before connecting to the mains. Always power up the unit using the power switch on the power supply itself, as hot plugging is not recommended.

For optimal frequency response, the PDA10D can react with the junction capacitance of the photodetector with the use of a load resistor. It is recommend to use a 50 Ω terminator in conjunction with a 50 Ω coaxial cable for best results. The gain of the detector is dependent on the feedback element, and the load resistance and the type of photodiode can affect the response speed. To reach the bandwidth’s maximum value and minimize ringing, it is recommended to use a 50 Ω terminating resistor at the opposite end of a 50 Ω coaxial cable to match its characteristic impedance. The PDA10D has 10 volts of maximum output for high impedance loads and 5 volts surging through50 Ω loads, so it's important to adjust the gain to ensure that the measured signal level is below 10 volts to avoid saturation.

One of the standout features of the PDA10D is its rugged housing and reverse-biased PIN photodiode mated to a fixed gain transimpedance amplifier. When a bias voltage is applied to the photodiode, the PDA10D leaks dark current, which is also influenced by the material and size of the photodiode's active area. Additionally, the PDA10D boasts low-noise amplification due to its fixed gain and free-space optical coupling capabilities, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements in various applications.
