The ThorLabs PDB480C-AC is a highly sophisticated fiber-coupled balanced amplified photodetector that is specifically designed as a balanced receiver for noise cancellation applications. This device is equipped with two length-matched fiber-coupled photodiodes and an ultra-low noise and distortion high-speed transimpedance amplifier that produces an RF output voltage. The amplifier generates an output voltage that is proportional to the two optical input signals from the photocurrent in the two photodiodes, making it an ideal choice for applications that require high precision and accuracy.

One of the key features of the PDB480C-AC is its fiber-coupled design, which helps suppress line artifacts in OCT images, especially when using detector coupling optics. The device also comes with Monitor+ and Monitor- fast monitor outputs that can measure the individual optical input power level and up to 3MHz of low-frequency modulated signals separately on each detector. The photodiodes in the PDB480C-AC are matched to achieve a common mode rejection ratio, which leads to increased reduction for noise, making it an efficient tool for noise elimination.

The InGaAs photodiodes in the PDB480C-AC are optimized for a 1200 nm - 1700 nm wavelength range. The device is also compatible with a switchable power supply and switchable transimpedance gain version. Alongside a common mode rejection ratio of less than 20dB and FC fiber inputs, this device also offers precise measurements with an optical path. Designed in a dual beam setup, an invariant reference path is used alongside the optical path for measurement. With correct use, the PDB480C-AC can reduce more than 25dB over the specified frequency range of common mode noise.

In addition to its outstanding noise elimination features, the PDB480C-AC comes with three female SMA electrical ports and subtracts the two optical signals from each other, allowing the extraction of small changes in the signal path from the interfering noise floor. The device is powered by an external linear power supply with the use of a PICO M8 power connector and is enclosed in shielded aluminum, making it both robust and durable. The PDB480C-AC is post-mountable by attaching the adapter plate to the bottom or side of the enclosure with M2 screws. It has dimensions of 3.35" x 3.15" x 1.18" and weighs 0.35 kg.
