The PDF10A/M by ThorLabs is a state-of-the-art fixed gain detector. The PDF10A/M is specifically designed to meet the demands of low-light level detection applications such as spectroscopy and fluorescence measurements.
The PDF10A/M boasts an ultra-low noise Silicon photodiode that combines with a transimpedance amplifier that is specially designed with an incredibly high gain of up to 1012V/A. This one of a kind combination enables this fixed gain detector to achieve femtowatt sensitivity with an exceptionally low NEP. Unlike other detectors, the PDF10A/M does not require an expensive high voltage power supply or cooling, making it a more cost-effective option. The detector can also replace photomultiplier tubes (PMT's), avalanche photodiodes (APD's), and liquid nitrogen cooled germanium photodiodes in many applications. Moreover, the PDF10A/M cannot be damaged by unwanted ambient light, which is a critical advantage over many photomultiplier tubes. For optimal results, it is important to ensure that the beam is properly aligned with the detector input.
The PDF10A/M comes with a slim line housing that includes a removable threaded coupler, making it compatible with a range of 1" and ½" threaded accessories, as well as providing easy mounting using compatible cage assembly accessories. The PDF10A/M is powered by an LDS12B external linear power supply (±12V, 250mA) via a PICO M8 power connector and has three tapped mounting holes for convenient installation.
The PDF10A/M comes with external SM1 (1.035"-40) and internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threading, allowing the attachment of an SM1T1 adapter that can hold optics up to 0.1" (2.8 mm). This enables great versatility and compatibility for a wide range of applications. The detector is also compatible with an electrically isolated Ø1/2" post adapter utilized for post mounting on a ½” post. As the PDF10A/M is highly sensitive to unwanted stray light, it is essential to shield the detector from any unwanted light sources. Common techniques include baffling or other opaque barriers like black cloths, beam tubes, or the use of appropriate band pass filters in front of the detector to minimize the influence of stray light.
