The ThorLabs PM100 is a digital power meter console designed to provide a flexible and reliable optical power measurement system that can easily expand with the measurement needs of its user. The PM100 system serves as a universal console that displays the measurement on a graphic LCD read-out and is controlled by an easy-to-use keypad.

The PM100 features an LCD graphics screen which is user-friendly and provides a real-time insight into the optical power. In addition, it has digits that are large and easy-to-read in addition to a fine resolution bar graph. The analog needle display is ideal for tuning laser systems or aligning fiber launch systems, while the x-y plot mode offers an oscilloscope-type display of the power reading. Additionally, real-time statistics can be accessed thorough the console’s statistics mode, which is perfect for process monitoring. For dim light viewing, the display has a backlight feature.

The PM100 offers versatility with its compatibility to a variety of interchangeable sensors heads, including germanium and silicon semiconductor models that deliver exceptional precision from visible to mid IR light with nW sensitivity. For higher power measurements, thermal sensors that can measure up to 30W with sophisticated circuitry enabling fast measurement results can be used. Each sensor head includes a non-volatile memory chip, which stores the NIST-traceable calibration of the sensor along with other relevant data such as model number, serial number, and wavelength range. The PM100 automatically recognizes the attached sensor head during operation and adjusts the system accordingly to maintain NIST-traceable, reliable power measurements.

The PM100 comes with a comprehensive application software that enables full remote control of the console and allows the user to view, acquire, and store the measurement data on the PC. It is also compatible with an RS-232 interface. Powered by a 3.6V, 1500mAh nickel-metal-hybrid (NiMH) battery pack, the PM100 offers long life operation and fast recharging times. Additionally, the included external power supply can recharge the battery pack as well as operate the unit independent from the battery pack. With a cable, the PM100 can be accessed electronically via a USB interface, making it even more convenient for its user. When the unit is powered off, the PM100 has non-volatile memory that is accessible through a microprocessor in order to store system values. It is unlikely for the system to need to be reset, however, it may be necessary if the system locks up and has no response when keys are pressed.
