The PM100A by ThorLabs is a handheld optical power meter console that serves as a powerful counterpart to the PM100D digital power and energy meter. This device is expertly designed to measure laser light optical power or other monochromatic or near monochromatic light sources, as well as the energy of light sources that are pulsed. The PM100A is compatible with over 20 different sensors designed for use from UV to the Mid-R including photodiode, slim photodiode, fiber, thermal, and integrating sphere sensors. Certain measuring activities utilizing photodiode sensors are more flexible and adjustable with a selectable bandwidth of 20 Hz or 100 kHz. Pulse detection is optimized when using a higher bandwidth while a lower bandwidth results in better accuracy and a decreased amount of noise. Faster measurements with thermal sensors can be achieved by adapting the power meter to the thermal time constant of thermal sensors. The thermal time constant can vary between each individual unit, however, the PM100A is able to adapt to the unique constant for each sensor, which minimizes the system response time.

The PM100A comes equipped with a rechargeable lithium polymer battery that is long-lasting and can be recharged with an AC adapter or a USB connection to a PC or laptop. Additionally, the software that includes drivers and applications of LabVIEW and C creates ease when integrating the device in measurement and test systems. The compact and portable design of the PM100A makes it highly convenient, with dimensions of 183 mm x 109 mm x 40 mm and a weight of <0.5 kg.
