The PM200 by ThorLabs is a premium optical power and energy meter made to measure the optical power of pulsed light sources energy, laser light and other monochromatic or nearly monochromatic light sources. With its compact and battery-powered design, this device is ideal for a wide range of applications and can be combined with other devices to open up even more possibilities.
Equipped with a 5.7” color touchscreen that boasts a VGA resolution, high contrast, a wide viewing angle and a 90° flip screen, the PM200 offers a user-friendly interface that can be easily navigated. The screen is also encased in a compact 170 mm x 124 mm x 38 mm removable rubber-protected housing that is both backlit and dimmable, making it easy to read in any lighting conditions. Plus, with the auto-detecting position sensor and rotatable kick-stand, the PM200 can be operated in both a bench-top style landscape view and a hand-held portrait view.
The PM200 is equipped with advanced spectral and attenuation correction features and is compatible with various power and energy sensors that can be used from the UV to the Mid-IR range. It also offers six current ranges for use with photodiode sensors and four voltage ranges for use with thermal sensors, which can be operated with manual or auto ranging. The PM200 is equipped with four manual voltage ranges which are compatible with pyroelectric sensors. Plus, it has an adjustable auto-gain threshold that can be set from 0.1% to 99.9%.
With USB 2.0 remote operation and sensor compatibility, the PM200 is an incredibly versatile device that can be used in a wide range of applications, including quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing, and R&D for stationary and field use. The PM200 interacts with the sensor to gain access to temporal constants, spectral response functions, and other detector-specific data before automatically adjusting for spectral response functions. The detector time constants for each sensor are also taken into consideration by the power meter, which reduces response time and boosts the efficiency of the device.
Other features of the PM200 that extend its functionality include the option to record data in a large 128 MB internal memory or on a USB drive, the ability to determine relevant laser beam specifications and suggest sensors based on input parameters, and the capability to undergo software updates using an external USB drive. Plus, the PM200 can load the spectral emission curve for a broadband light source and calculate the net adjusted responsivity based on the spectral profile, allowing for more accurate power measurements. The transmission curve for a filter can also be loaded, and the meter will calculate the adjusted power and display the corrected value.
