The ThorLabs S120VC is a standard photodiode power sensor that is the perfect tool for accurate optical power measurements in a variety of settings. The S120VC is designed for general-purpose use and is ideal for measuring low power coherent and incoherent sources from the UV to the NIR.
Featuring a small head that is optimized for small thickness, the S120VC is built to fit in tight spaces. It also boasts an integrated viewing target for easy alignment, enhanced shielding against electromagnetic interference, an over-temperature alert device, and a large Ø9.5 mm sensor aperture. This high-sensitivity photodiode, with its large active area, as well as a reflective and diffused ND filter, supports power measurements all the way up to 50mW in both free-space and fiber-based applications. The S120VC also comes with a removable annular UV/VIS viewing target that absorbs light from 200 to 525 mm. This allows the measured beam to be conveniently centered to the active area of the photodiode, providing the user with greater accuracy and precision.
The housing of the S120VC is designed with convenience in mind, featuring a threaded input axis with the light input aperture that allows for the convenient mounting of external optics, fiber adapters, light filters, and apertures. The device is compatible with Ø1/2" posts and SM1 (1.035"-40) lens tubes, making it ideal for free and mounted applications. The sensor connector of the S120VC also contains non-volatile memory that holds sensor information data and NIST and PTB traceable calibration data, ensuring reliable performance with every use.
With its stable calibration, the S120VC is a reliable tool for well over a year, as long as it has not been exposed to excessive optical power. However, to maintain its high stability, it is recommended to be recalibrated yearly. In terms of cleaning, the housing may be cleaned by wiping with a soft damp cloth, while the aperture filter should be treated as a fine optic. Any debris should be blown off the aperture filter with compressed air and wiped gently with an optic tissue wetted with propanol. With its housing dimensions of Ø30.5 mm x 12.7 mm and weight of only 0.07 kg, the S120VC is a compact and lightweight tool that is perfect for use in a variety of settings.
