The S144A by ThorLabs is an optical power meter head utilized for reliable and accurate measurement of light over the near infrared wavelength range of 800 nm to 1700 nm. This power meter head is specifically optimized for fiber applications and free space, and is designed to be used with compatible PM11 and PM30 console systems.
The S144A features an integrating sphere based design that allows for measuring the optical power widely independent from the divergence angle and beam shape of the incoming beam. With its NIST traceable optical power measurement, you can trust that the S144A will provide precise and reliable results every time. This power meter head is capable of detecting light and measuring highly divergent beams exiting optical fibers over the power range of 1µW to 1W. The S144A also features an EEPROM located in the DB9 mating connector that stores the NIST calibrated spectral response curve required to provide an accurate power reading.
The S144A is equipped with a fiber adapter that accommodates both FC/PC and FC/APC connectors. Protective port caps are also included and can be user-modified for custom applications. Additionally, the S144A comes with 8-32 and M4 threaded mounting holes that accommodate posts and post holders, making it a versatile tool that can be used in a variety of settings. This power meter head is compatible with FC, SMA, and SC fiber adapters that are easily interchangeable. To remove or change the fiber adapter, simply loosen two M2.5x4 screws and lift off the adapter. Without the use of a fiber adapter, the S144A can be used for free space applications, providing even greater versatility.
Other features of bare fiber adapters compatible with the S144A include the ability to measure power of bare fiber outputs, the easy loading and positioning of the optical fiber in the v-groove, the ability to support fiber with buffer diameters from 250 to 450µm, and rubber padding that provides excellent holding force without inflicting damage.
