The ThorLabs S144C is an InGaAs integrating sphere power sensor head, designed to accurately measure the optical power of an incoming beam independent of its divergence, beam shape, or entrance angle. This high-quality power sensor head is perfect for use with fiber sources and off-axis free space sources, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of applications. The S144C boasts an impressive optical power working range, with the ability to measure power levels from as low as 1 µW up to 500 mW, across a wavelength range of 800 nm to 1700 nm. Its typical application includes use with fiber lasers, low and mid power lasers, and other similar devices.

Designed with user convenience in mind, the S144C is compatible with an SM1 thread adapter, removable FC fiber adapter, and specific power meter display units. Thanks to its large active detector area, a compatible fiber adapter can be used with an FC/PC or FC/APC-terminated fiber. Furthermore, the externally SM1-threaded adapter can be easily removed with a size 1 screwdriver to place components closer to the window, while the unit can be mounted to Ø1/2" posts and post holders using the 8-32 and M-4-threaded tapped holes.

One of the standout features of the S144C is its integrated sphere design, which allows it to act as a diffuser with minimal power loss. It is compatible with fiber adapters for both terminated and bare fiber, making it a versatile tool for any laboratory setting. The sensor also features a large Ø5 mm aperture and enhanced shielding against electromagnetic interference, ensuring that measurements are both accurate and reliable.

The S144C is housed in a sleek black casing that minimizes the amount of reflected light around the entrance aperture. The sensor is equipped with an alert system that notifies when there is a risk of damage or inaccuracy due to excessive heat. This helps ensure the accuracy and durability of the sensor. Additionally, a non-volatile memory in the sensor connector contains sensor information data and the NIST and PTB traceable calibration data, ensuring that the device is always ready for use.

To maintain optimal performance, it is recommended that the S144C be recalibrated yearly. However, its calibration should be very stable for well over a year, as long as the sensor has not been exposed to excessive optical power. Cleaning the housing of the device is easy, simply wipe it with a soft damp cloth. It is important to avoid touching the surface of the integrating sphere inner surface, as it cannot be cleaned. Instead, debris can be blown off using compressed air.
