The responsivity of the SM05PD4A can be easily estimated using the Responsivity Curve, allowing users to determine the expected amount of photocurrent. To convert the output current to voltage, a load resistor (RL) is placed between the photodiode anode and the circuit ground. This provides great convenience in signal processing and analysis. The rise time response and bandwidth of the SM05PD4A are determined by the load resistance and the diode capacitance, providing precise control and customization for specific measurement requirements. The diode capacitance can be maximized by adding a bias voltage from the photo diode cathode to the ground of the circuit.

Nonetheless, it is worth noting that the boundaries of the active zone of the SM05PD4A may lead to inconsistencies that produce unanticipated capacitance and resistance effects, disrupting the time-domain behavior of its photodiode output. To mitigate this, it is recommended to place a focusing lens or pinhole in front of the detector element to center the incident light on the active area.
