The Thorlabs ASE730 White Light Test Source is a state-of-the-art tool for C-Band and L-Band wavelength applications. With a high output of +15 dBm across C-band and L-band wavelengths and low noise output, this light source offers excellent wavelength stability and broadband output for a variety of optical communication systems, spectroscopy, and sensor applications. The ASE730 light source produces 30mW (15dBm) of broadband "white light" using an erbium-doped fluoride fiber pumped by a single 1480nm laser diode. The output fiber is a standard SMF-28.

The ASE730 source comes with FC/PC output connectors that ensure a safe and stable connection. However, it is important to cover this output connector with the provided cap and chain when not in use to prevent damage to the connector. Additionally, do not use index matching gels with the ASE730 source. This is because it does not improve the coupling of standard super-polished FC/PC connectors and may degrade connection performance.

The light source should be warmed up for 1 hour before use for optimal functionality. It supports 115 and 230 VAC input voltages which can be changed using the switch on the back of the device. The ASE730 has an operating wavelength range of 1530-1610 nm, and a maximum output power of 35 mW. The ASE730 has short-term stability (after a 1 hour warm-up phase) of +/- 0.001 dB and long-term stability of +/- 0.05 dB. This ensures that the source will perform consistently over time.

Cleaning the ASE730 connector involves a few simple steps. First, use filtered compressed air to blow any loose debris off the end of the connector. Then clean the connector shell and connector body with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Next, blow out the connector sleeve again with filtered, dry compressed air before using the lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol to clean the end face of the connector ferrule. Next, inspect the connector end-face with an inspection scope with at least 100x magnification. Finally, connect the optical patch cables to the ASE730.
