The CPS405 by ThorLabs is a reliable and compact collimated laser diode module designed for use as an alignment laser in optical systems. With a typical center wavelength of approximately 405 nm and an elliptical beam shape, this module offers single-spatial-mode output that delivers exceptional performance. The CPS405 boasts an 11 mm diameter housing that comes equipped with an 18” (457 mm) strain relief cable, making it easy to integrate into an existing optical setup. It is also compatible with an AD11F mounting adapter and LDS5 power supply, enabling full user customization.
Designed to withstand large temperature variations, the CPS405 is precision machined using an Iathe after assembly to maintain the parallelism between the housing and the output beam. This module is driven in constant power mode, with feedback from an internal photodiode used to maintain the optical output power. While the optical output power may fluctuate slightly during operation due to the lack of thermal stabilization, the CPS405 still delivers exceptional performance and reliability.
Thanks to its versatile design, the housing of the CPS405 is compatible with optomechanical components through the use of various mounting adapters. Depending on the adapter chosen, the module can be directly mounted into either internally SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) components or mechanics with a Ø1" bore. The CPS405 also comes with a 2.5 phono plug, allowing users to wire their own power supply. A cable with a female 2.5 mm phono socket is provided with the module to enable connection to a power supply. It is important to note that looking directly at emissions from the laser diode can result in damage to the eye. To ensure safety, it is essential to avoid direct or indirect exposure of the beam through external optics or mirrors.
