The CPS635R by ThorLabs is a collimated laser diode module, an advanced piece of equipment engineered to withstand large temperature variations. Ideal for use as alignment lasers in optical systems, the CPS635R laser diode module offers a single-spatial-mode output and a compact cylindrical housing.

With a typical center wavelength close to 635 nm, the CPS635R produces an output beam that has a circularized beam shape. This unique feature is achieved by using a series of custom apertures that create relatively little near-field noise and reflect less light to the laser diode, compared to a typical aperture. The module housing is precision machined by a lathe after assembly to maintain the parallelism (axis deviation) between the housing and output beam.

The CPS635R features an Ø11 mm housing with an 18” (457 mm) strain relief cable and is compatible with specific mounting adapters and an LDS5 power supply. This laser diode module can be directly mounted into internally SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) components or mechanics with a Ø1" bore using various mounting adapters. For an all-in-one mounting solution, mounting kits can be used, which include a KM100T kinematic mount, post, post holder, base, and 5 VDC power supply. The CPS635R is also compatible with an external battery pack that requires the use of a USB-to-phono plug to operate. Additionally, the laser diode module’s cable has a female 2.5 mm phono socket for connection to a power supply.

It is significant to note that the CPS635R runs in constant power mode, wherein the internal photodiode provides feedback, helping to sustain the optical output power. However, since it is not thermally stabilized, the optical output power may fluctuate slightly during operation. To ensure the safety of those around it, direct viewing of laser diode emissions should be avoided at all costs as it can be damaging to the eyes. Take extra caution to not view directly or reflect off of external optics or mirrors.
