The EK2000 by ThorLabs is a comprehensive laser diode driver evaluation kit designed for seamless integration with the LD2000R, specifically tailored for laser diodes with an A-style pin configuration. The EK2000 streamlines the setup process of developing custom PCBs and dealing with complicated hand wiring, allowing users to quickly and efficiently connect the LD2000R with their laser diode and DC power supply.
The EK2000 is configured to operate the LD2000R, which is a reliable laser diode current source that operates in an automatic power control (APC) mode, utilizing the built-in monitor photodiode integrated in the laser diode for feedback. With on-board trimpots, users have full control over laser power and current limit, or they can opt for external voltage control. Supporting a wide range of laser diodes with drive currents of up to 100 mA and photodiode currents ranging from 20 μA to 2 mA, the LD2000R is versatile and adaptable to various laser diode configurations.
Setting up the EK2000 is a breeze with a user-provided power supply. The kit can be configured for simple continuous wave (CW) mode operation, with the LD2000R on-board trim pots effectively controlling the laser drive current. For more advanced applications, the EK2000 also supports analog modulation and external modulation modes, allowing for flexible laser output modulation. In external modulation operation, the laser output is precisely controlled by the modulating voltage, with 0 V resulting in the laser being fully on and 2.5 V turning the laser fully off.
