The HPLS245 by ThorLabs is an innovative high-power plasma light source that offers a unique combination of solid-state electronics and full-spectrum plasma emitters. Built with a dielectric resonant cavity that efficiently couples power from a solid-state power amplifier into a high-intensity discharge vessel, this light source provides an exceptional color spectrum and long lifetime. The HPLS245 is an ideal solution for a wide range of medical lighting and inspection applications, including microscopy, reluctance microscopy, endoscopy, and fluorescence. 

Enclosed in a compact housing, the HPLS345 includes both power supply and lamp assembly for the convenience of the user. The front of the unit features a three-digit display, controls, and power switch that allows the lamp to be enabled and adjust its intensity manually. Alternatively, the user can control the lamp via computer software using a USB connection. For those who prefer a command line interface, the HPLS245 can also be controlled using a USB port. This option is provided for users who want to operate the unit through a terminal interface or write their own program to control it. The necessary drivers are installed when the GUI is installed. To operate the command line interface, simply power on the unit and connect a USB cable between the HPLS245 and the host.

At the rear of the HPLS245, there are connections for a USB cable, an AC power cable, and a liquid light guide. The user can control the lamp ON and intensity from the front panel, as well as with the control software. The Luxim LiFi Light Emitting Plasma™ lamp source is designed with a dielectric resonant cavity that effectively couples power from a solid-state power amplifier into a high-intensity discharge vessel, providing a long life of more than 10,000 hours at 50% intensity and a complete color spectrum. The HPLS245 is built with a Liquid Light Guide (LLG) mount that is compatible with a Ø5 mm LLGs. The design of the unit enables airflow and monitoring of the LLG tip temperature to prevent overheating, while a hot mirror placed just before the LLG tip protects it from damage. Additionally, the HPLS245’s high-intensity output can be mated to the illumination port of many popular microscopes using a collimation adapter.
