The ITC8022 by ThorLabs is a highly versatile combined PRO8000 laser current and temperature controller module that is engineered to provide optimal control over laser diodes and TEC elements simultaneously. This advanced controller module is an essential tool for maintaining the operating parameters of connected laser diodes with ease and precision. One of the standout features of the ITC8022 is its laser current drive of 0 to ±200mA alongside a 9 pin connector for the laser diode, and a TEC current control range of 2 to +2 A with a 15 pin connector for the TEC. This allows for fine-tuned control of laser diode output, ensuring stable and reliable performance at all times.

The two operating modes of the ITC8022 - constant current mode and constant power mode - offer flexibility and versatility to users. In constant current mode, the laser diode current is maintained at a constant while emitted laser power is measured with a monitor diode in constant power mode. In both modes, the module maintains a low laser current noise and exceptional temperature stability better than 0.002 degrees Celsius. This makes it easy to maintain precise control over laser diode output, regardless of the mode of operation.

The ITC8022 is compatible with all laser and monitor diode polarities, including Anode Grounded and Cathode Grounded polarities. This, coupled with the transimpedance amplifier input included on the module, ensures compatibility with a wide range of systems and applications. It can also be operated photovoltaic (without a bias voltage) or photoconductive (with a bias voltage), depending on the needs of the user. 

The ITC8022 features a user-friendly PRO8 display menu that allows for simple configuration of the module, and uses mnemonic symbols to access all operational parameters. Additionally, any settings or configurations are retained and recalled automatically upon turning on the system if it has not been moved to a different slot. The adjustable P (proportional), I (integral), and D (differential)-Settings of the PID Servo Loop provide optimal temperature settling time.

Safety is a top priority when working with fragile laser diodes, and the ITC8022 is equipped with several safety functions to ensure their protection. This includes current limit, laser current soft start, and interrupt protection. Additionally, an advanced circuit design ensures that the laser diode cannot be affected by AC power-line transients, power outages, or RF pickup. Other protective measures include a key-operated power switch, an interlock, and a temperature window that can be set to guarantee that the laser shuts down if high or low values of the temperature window are exceeded.
