ThorLabs LDC2000

The LDC2000 Laser Diode Controller by ThorLabs is a highly accurate controller created to ensure the secure and convenient functioning of laser diodes and LEDs as well as serve as a reliable optical transmitter. The LDC2000 is utilized to handle all laser diodes up to 2A, provide power to stabilized light sources, and to control and regulate currents through wavelength tuning and modulation.

One of the key advantages of the LDC2000 is its advanced protection circuitry, which is specifically designed to prevent damage of the laser diode. This includes the ability to turn the current of the laser diode on and off with a separate enable switch, a soft start function that prevents undesired spikes, an independent adjustable laser current limit that can be set with a 20-turn potentiometer, an interlock system incorporated in the laser diode mount connection to ensure safety and to monitor open circuit conditions, a laser diode electronic short circuit when the output is open, and a mode for LASER ON displayed with an external monitoring LED light to indicate when the laser current is switched on. The LASER DISABLED mode is automatically enabled when starting the LDC2000 to ensure the safety and use of operation.

The LDC2000’s front panel arrangement is both user-friendly and intuitive, with an illuminated 4 ½-digit LCD display showcasing the operating levels, including laser current, current limit, laser power, and photodiode current, all easily selected via a push button switch. Laser diodes and photodiodes are connected by a DB9 female connector located on the rear of the unit. The output for the laser diode and the input for the photodiode are bipolar, making it possible to use all polarities of commercially available laser diodes with the LDC2000. Moreover, the laser current or the optical output power of the laser diode can be modulated via a modulation input at the rear of the unit. Should an error occur, or the limit for the laser current is reached, the corresponding LED lights up, and a beeper sounds a short warning signal.

The LDC2000 is protected from overheating and high environmental temperatures with an internal fan that cools the unit, providing free air circulation for safe operation in temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius ambient temperature. The LDC2000 includes analog inputs that can be used to assemble simple, semi-automatic control systems, and it can be operated at line voltages of 100 V, 115 V, or 230 V. It has dimensions of 5.8" x 2.8" x 12.5" and weighs less than 6.6 lbs.
