The LDC201CU by ThorLabs is a benchtop laser diode current controller, the ultimate solution for safely controlling laser diodes and LEDs. With its exceptional features and optimal performance, this controller is designed to meet the specific needs of different applications. The LDC201CU boasts an ultra-low noise current of <0.2µA RMS, which ensures that the laser diode operates without any interruptions or disruptions. 

With the ability to drive laser diodes in both constant current and constant power modes, the LDC201CU offers unparalleled flexibility and precision. In constant current mode, the laser is held at a specified level, providing the lowest noise and the highest response speed. In constant power mode, the laser's output power is stabilized using an internal photodiode, which adjusts feedback current for optimal performance. It is important to note that a minimum control current of 25 µA is required for stable operation of the power control. 

The LDC201CU supports all laser diode and photodiode configuration types and always drives the laser diode with respect to ground. This grounded operation of the laser diode provides advantages in terms of noise, transient suppression, and stability, as compared to driver designs that require a floating ground.

The LDC201CU has a user-friendly design with a 5-digit LED display that shows the photodiode monitor current, the laser current, the laser current limit, or the optical power. The power readout can be calibrated to the responsivity of the monitor photodiode by adjusting a front panel trim potentiometer. With several safety parameters in place, including a current limit and automatic switch-off in case of interrupted connection between the current source and the laser diode, this device ensures that the laser diode is never damaged. Additionally, when the laser current is switched off, a switch within the device short circuits the laser diode for further production. Soft start of the laser diode also protects against potential voltage peaks. 

The LDC201CU also comes with analog control of input and output and is compatible with all polarities of laser diodes and photodiodes. With dimensions of 146 x 77 x 320 mm³ and weighing less than 3.1 kg, this benchtop laser diode current controller is compact and easy to use.
