The LDC202C by ThorLabs is an advanced benchtop laser diode controller. This state-of-the-art device is designed to provide high performance when used with laser diodes and LEDs. It also supports all types of photodiode and laser diode configurations. Additionally, since the laser diode is drive with respect to ground, it results in reduced noise, quicker response times and improved stability over driver designs that work without grounding.

Using the LDC202C is a breeze thanks to its intuitive, user-friendly operation and 5-digit LED display. This display can show the laser current, photodiode monitor current, laser current limit, or optical power in mW. The unit also includes a variety of additional features at the rear, including a modulation input for laser current power that can be used to pulse the laser diode output, a control output that is proportional to the laser current, and a TTL input for remote laser on and off configuration. To connect the LDC202C to a compatible mount, a CAB400 cable that has a typical length of 1.5 m is needed.

The LDC202C is designed with protection features that ensure safe operation for both the user and the laser diode. These features include a current limit that prevents accidental adjustment and ensures that the maximum laser current cannot be exceeded. Additionally, an audible indicator alerts the user to any unsafe increase in laser drive current. The current source will automatically switch off the current output if the connection between the current source and the laser diode is interrupted, and an open current circuit can only be switched on with a separate key. Finally, a soft start when the laser current is turned on ensures the protection of the laser diode and allows for a slow increase of the laser current without voltage peaks.
