The LDC4005 by ThorLabs is an advanced laser diode controller designed to deliver precision and high power. This device is equipped with a remote-controlled SCPI compatible USB 2.0 interface that enables the driving of laser diodes with up to 5A of laser current and a compliance voltage of 12V. One of the standout features of the LDC4005 is its VXIpnp Instrument Drivers, which make it compatible with a range of programming environments such as MS-Visual Studio™, LabVIEW™, and LabWindows™/CVI.

The LDC4005 is built with active power management technology, which ensures that it is power-efficient and can operate with cathode-grounded or anode-grounded photodiodes and lasers. It offers a silent and orderly operation with a noise reduction filter, unlike other LDC200C controllers, making it suitable for most applications. This laser diode controller comes with a range of features that make it an ideal choice for precision applications. It has higher injection currents, a Quasi-Continuous Wave operation mode with a pulse width as low as 100µs, an internal modulation generator, a thermopile input, laser voltage measurement, and an optical power limit.

The LDC4005 supports all monitor and laser diode pin configurations and can be controlled using constant power and constant current control modes, along with a 100kHz maximum modulation CW mode. It utilizes analog modulation with an internal function generator and an analog monitor output for the laser current. The LDC4005 features a range of protection mechanisms to prevent damage to the laser diode, including a soft start function that protects against undesired peaks and an interlock input that features a safety lock and a laser on/off LED light. Current and voltage feedback inputs can be set at a limit in constant current and constant power modes to protect the laser diode from excessive laser current. It is also protected against laser over-voltage and over-temperature and comes with an enable input for temperature loop monitoring.

This laser diode controller is designed to be user-friendly, with an easy-to-read and large graphic LC display and intuitive operation menus for stand-alone operation. The LDC4005 has dimensions of 263 x 122 x 307 mm³ excluding operating elements, 263 x 122 x 345 mm³ including operating elements, and weighs 5.5 kg.
