The ThorLabs LEDD1B is a highly versatile T-Cube LED driver that offers efficient and effortless control of LED intensity. As a compact, single channel controller, the LEDD1B is designed to work seamlessly with compatible LED packages and provides a maximum output current of 1200 mA.
The LEDD1B is incredibly versatile and can be used with a range of LEDs, including collimated, uncollimated, PCB-mounted, diffuse backlight, and fiber-coupled LEDs, as well as select unmounted LEDs for which the maximum forward DC current is higher than 200 mA. However, it is crucial to ensure that the LEDD1B current limit is set at or below the LED's maximum forward DC current rating when driving these LEDs. This can be easily achieved by rotating the arrow direction with a flathead screwdriver.
The LEDD1B offers continuous, modulated, or trigger mode for complete control over LED operation. The continuous mode is ideal for imaging with CCD cameras or photodiodes, with LED current controlled by a single rotary control knob. In modulation mode, an external control signal modulates the LED current and brightness. Meanwhile, trigger mode can be used to strobe the LED or control average power by utilizing pulse width modulation (up to 1 kHz rep rate). Both trigger and modulation modes are controlled by an external voltage within the 0 to 5 V range.
Designed with convenience in mind, the LEDD1B boasts a small footprint of just 60 mm x 60 mm. An included adapter plate allows the unit to be mounted directly onto an optical table or breadboard, with controls for LED current and operating mode situated on the top. Meanwhile, the LED current limit control is located on the front side of the driver and can be adjusted using the included screwdriver to set the output current limit between 200 mA and 1200 mA.
The LEDD1B also features an adjustable LED current limit to protect the connected LED. The output current limit can be continuously adjusted between 0.2 A and 1.2 A using the key slot on the front of the unit, ensuring that the output current never exceeds the limit regardless of other settings or modulation input voltage. It is worth noting that the LEDD1B is designed for use with high-brightness LEDs only and that the LED current limit must be set using the trim pot on the front of the unit to ensure that the maximum current of the connected LED is not exceeded.
