The LIUCWHA by ThorLabs is a LED Array Light Source that serves as an exceptional lighting solution for a broad range of applications. The LIUCWHA boasts a broadband, cold-white output with a remarkable intensity of 3.0 mW/cm2 and a color temperature of 4600 K - 9000 K. Housed in a robust and compact Ø1.5" housing, this LED array is designed to provide high-quality lighting output while maintaining ease of use and installation.
At the heart of the LIUCWHA lies an array of 20 LEDs that are mounted closely together and are protected by special LED driver integrated circuits. The LEDs are arranged in several strings, with each LED within the string connected in series. All the strings are then driven in parallel, resulting in an LED array that is not dimmable. To prevent overheating, the maximum current on each string is limited to 20 mA, despite the individual LEDs having a higher maximum current rating.
The LIUCWHA also features a diffuser mounted over the LEDs and secured by the housing, which creates a uniform light output. Installing the unit is easy and flexible, with the housing designed to fit into most optical mounts used in camera illumination units. Additionally, two threaded holes on the rear of the housing (one M4 and one 8-32) and grooves running the length of the housing provide multiple mounting options, enabling the LED unit to be placed in a 30 mm cage system. The LED unit can be suspended by the cage rods, but it is not restrained from moving along the optical axis of the cage system. For fixing the position of the LED unit, the LIUCWHA can be clamped between two fixed cage elements. The LIUCWHA can also be mounted to Ø2" mirror mounts with the use of a mounting adapter.
It is important to note that the LIUCWHA can only be driven using a 24 LIU-PS power supply. During normal operation, the temperature of the LED housing can increase by as much as 25°C above the ambient temperature. Therefore, handling the LED housing while the LED is on or shortly after it has been turned off should be avoided.
