The LPS-1310-FC by ThorLabs is a premium quality Single Mode pigtailed laser diode that is designed to deliver high precision performance for your laser applications. The LPS-1310-FC laser diode is a standard TO-packaged diode that has been pigtailed to a 1-meter long single mode fiber with an FC/PC connector for ease of use.
To ensure maximum coupling efficiency of the laser emission into the single mode pigtail, the LPS-1310-FC has undergone a precise pigtail alignment process that includes multiple test and inspection points. A precise 8° cut on the front end of the fiber is made in order to suppress any back reflections that can disrupt the intensity of the output. The LPS-1310-FC has a typical center wavelength of 1310 nm, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Additionally, the higher the temperature increases, the more rapid the decline in the laser diode reliability. Therefore, it is recommend to use a temperature controller in tandem with the laser diode to ensure stable wavelength and output power. It's also worth noting that the lasing wavelength can be altered when the laser diode is temperature tuned.
The LPS-1310-FC is sensitive to electrostatic shock. Due to the high sensitivity of the LPS-1310-FC laser diode, it is imperative to be mindful and take the required precautions when handling it. The user can wear an ESD wrist strap, in addition to other safety measures, which would help to prevent any potential electric discharge. Because of its susceptibility to optical feedback, the user can encounter critical variations in the generated power – this depends wholly on the type of application. For optimal performance, it is highly suggested to clean the LPS-1310-FC fiber connector before each use, particularly when there is a possibility of contaminants like dust being present on the surface. If contaminants are present, there is a possibility that the laser intensity at the center of the fiber tip is very high, which can result in the tip burning. Lastly, it is critical to switch off the laser when plugging or unplugging the device from other fibers, particularly for lasers that have power exceeding 10 mW.
