The ThorLabs S1FC1310 is a high-quality Fabry-Perot benchtop laser source that has been designed to meet the demands of fiber optics that are driven by laser diodes. The S1FC1310 is a compact and easy-to-use unit that uses a current controller and a Fabry-Perot laser diode that is pigtailed combined into a single benchtop unit.

The S1FC1310 is equipped with a FC/PC bulkhead terminated pigtailed Fabry-Perot laser diode inside each unit, making it simple to couple with single mode fiber optic patch cables. For optimal performance, it'd be best to use a fiber patch cable that matches the fiber type of the pigtailed laser. This would minimize losses and provide better results. To reduce unnecessary light reflections, using hybrid FC/APC to FC/PC cables is recommended. The FC/PC end should be connected to the laser source for optimum results.

The front panel of the S1FC1310 features a display that has an on/off key, a designated knob that can be used to adjust the laser power, and an enable button. Additionally, the display shows the output power measured in mW. This easy-to-use interface makes it simple to control and adjust the laser output. The back panel is equipped with a convenient input for controlling the laser diode drive current via an alternating sine wave voltage source or external direct current. Additionally, an interlock input that is remote is also available on the back panel. The S1FC1310 has a typical wavelength of 1310 nm with standard single mode fiber or polarization maintaining fiber output.

On the rear panel of the S1FC1310, a remote interlock connector can be found. This connection allows the user to attach a switch to the connector and activate it remotely. The switch must be in 'normally open' state for this connection to work. The switch has to be closed to enable the unit, and if it returns to an open state, the laser source will shut down automatically. If the switch is shut again, the user must hit the ENABLE button at the unit in order to re-activate the laser source. The MOD IN input on the S1FC1310 can be used to modulate the laser output, or set the laser output remotely using a +5 V power source. The 5 V maximum input corresponds to the maximum calibrated power of the laser source. The S1FC1310 is calibrated to achieve the maximum power for the particular laser diode used in the device. However, due to variations in the coupling process, it should be noted that no two units will have the same maximum power.
