The S1FC675 by ThorLabs is a single mode fiber-coupled laser source that offers a versatile solution for laser-diode-driven fiber optics. The S1FC675 combines a pigtailed Fabry-Perot laser diode and a current controller in a single, user-friendly package.

The S1FC675 is designed with convenience in mind, featuring a pigtailed Fabry-Perot laser diode that is terminated at an FC/PC bulkhead, which is wide and narrow key compatible and attached to the front panel of the unit. This allows for easy coupling of a compatible single mode fiber optic patch cable to the front panel. With five standard wavelengths ranging from 405 nm to 1550 nm, the S1FC675 is compatible with both standard single mode fiber and polarization maintaining fiber output. For optimal performance, it is recommended that a fiber patch cable is used that is the same fiber type as the fiber-pigtailed laser to minimize losses, and a hybrid FC/PC to FC/APC cable with the FC/PC end connected to the laser source to reduce additional noise from back reflections. It's important to note that the laser must be off when connecting or disconnecting fibers from the device, particularly for power levels above 10 mW.

The display on the front panel of the S1FC675 showcases the output power in mW, an enable button, an off and on key, and a knob to adjust the power of the laser. The rear panel of the laser diode offers an input port which enables adjusting its drive current with the help of an external DC or sine wave voltage source, plus a remote interlock input. The S1FC675 is also equipped with a remote interlock connector located on the rear panel, which must be short-circuited to enable the laser source. This connection is made available to allow the user to connect a remote-actuated switch to the connector (i.e. an open door indicator). The switch, which must be normally open, has to be closed in order for the unit to be enabled. Once the switch is in an open state, the laser source will automatically shut down, and if the switch returns to a closed condition, the laser source must be re-enabled at the unit by pressing the ENABLE switch.
