The S2011-EC by ThorLabs is a versatile and reliable adjustable focus laser diode kit that is designed to meet the needs of experimenters and system designers. This laser diode system includes a visible 635 nm laser module, DC power supply, and a range of mounting hardware to provide users with everything needed to start experimenting with visible diode lasers.
The S2011-EC is equipped with an internal constant-power driver circuit, which ensures that the output power is regulated to better than 99.5%. A fixed 2-element glass optic collimates the laser output beam, and the module has been ruggedized to MIL-STD 883C for exceptional ESD protection. The laser is mounted in a KM100T mount, which allows for convenient mounting and alignment of the laser pointing. The kinematic mount design ensures beam stability, and the kit also includes other mounting hardware such as a TR75/M post, a PH3/M post holder, an AD11F adapter, and a BA2/M base.
The S2011-EC laser diode kit is capable of providing a maximum output power of 4.5 mW and can lase at wavelengths ranging from 405 nm to 980 nm. It requires a 5 VDC power supply to operate, and users can also opt to wire their own power supply to the laser module using a 2.5 mm phono plug. The S2011-EC comes with either an 18" (457 mm) or 24" (610 mm) long cable that has a 2.5 mm phono socket for connection to a power supply. For mounting, this laser diode kit is compatible with optomechanical components through the use of various mounting adapters. Depending on the adapter chosen, the laser modules can be directly mounted into either internally SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) components or mechanics with a Ø1" bore.
For single-frequency applications, the S2011-EC laser diode kit can be paired with a collimated 850 nm VCSEL Module, which produces a single-wavelength output and a round, Gaussian beam shape without clipping the beam. This laser module features a 2 to 3 order of magnitude narrower linewidth than other laser modules, but this comes at the expense of a lower total power output.
