The SLD1005S by ThorLabs is a Superluminescent Diode (SLD) designed for precision optical applications. This SLD boasts a typical center wavelength of 1550 nm, a near-Gaussian spectral profile, and low ripple. The SLD1005S is housed in a standard 14-pin butterfly package with FC/APC connectors and non polarization-maintaining fiber. An integrated thermistor allows for precise temperature control, ensuring stability in both power and spectrum output.
The SLD1005S is optimized for use with single-mode (SM) or polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers that are terminated with a FC/APC 2.0 mm narrow key connector. It is important to note that optical feedback can significantly reduce output power or even cause erosion to the SLD, so it should not be used with components that are susceptible to produce back reflections. Additionally, the SLD1005S has a near-Gaussian spectrum and a typical 3dB bandwidth of 50 nm.
