The TED200 by ThorLabs is a precision thermoelectric benchtop temperature controller. This sophisticated device is specifically engineered to control the temperature of laser diodes and detectors with incredible accuracy. The TED200 is an ideal solution for various applications, including wavelength stabilization of laser diodes, noise reduction of detectors, wavelength tuning by regulating temperature, and modulation of wavelength by tuning temperature.

The TED200 is user-friendly and features clearly arranged operating elements on the front panel, allowing for easy and intuitive use. The operating parameters are displayed on a 4 ½-digit LCD display, providing clear and concise information. Additionally, the controller’s output for the TEC current can be switched on or off via a key on the front panel, providing further control and convenience. At the output jack, a control signal is available to drive an external LED, indicating TEC ON mode when the TEC current loop is activated. At the rear of the TED200, the temperature sensor and the TEC element can be easily connected using a 9-pin D-sub plug. The temperature set value can be changed with a knob on the front panel or via an analog input at the rear of the unit. For monitoring purposes, an analog voltage proportional to the actual value of the temperature is also available at the rear of the unit.

The TED200 features adjustable gain (P-share), integral share, and differential share of the PID temperature control loop, providing free and reproducible temperature control. The unit is designed for safe operation, with environmental temperatures of more than 40 °C provided that a free air circulation through the ventilation slots at the rear and at both sides of the unit is maintained. In case of overheating caused by too high environmental temperatures or closed ventilation slots, the unit automatically switches the output off to avoid damages. The LED "OTP" (over-temperature-protection) indicates the over-temperature. After a temperature drop of about 10 °C, the LED "OTP" extinguishes, and the output current can be switched on again by pressing the key "ON". If an error occurs (OTP or OPEN), the corresponding LED lights up, and a beeper gives a short warning signal.

The TED200 is also designed with a mains filter and careful shielding of the transformer, providing a low ripple at the output.
