The TED350 by ThorLabs is an advanced benchtop temperature controller designed to power thermoelectric cooler (TEC) elements with currents up to ±5A, providing exceptional temperature regulation for a wide variety of thermal loads. The TED350 offers unparalleled performance and accuracy, making it an ideal choice for research, testing, and industrial applications.

Equipped with a powerful PID feedback circuit, the TED350 provides independent control of the P (proportional) gain, the I (integral) offset control, and the D (differential) rate control, allowing users to achieve optimal performance for their specific thermal loads. This level of precision is particularly useful when working with sensitive devices or when conducting research that requires stable and consistent temperatures. The TED350 features a 4 ½-digit LED display that can be used to monitor setup parameters, control parameters, TEC voltage, and window thresholds. The LED display provides a clear and concise readout of important information, including the set temperature, actual temperature, heating or cooling current, and current limit for the TE cooler. When using the AD590 temperature sensor, temperatures are displayed with a resolution of 0.01°C, or 1Ω when a thermistor is being used.

Setting the temperature set point is made simple with the TED350. The front panel control knob allows for easy adjustments, while a limited access set point provides an added level of security to prevent inadvertent adjustments. Additionally, the Tset temperature can be controlled via an analog input signal, supporting the construction of a control loop for stabilizing the wavelength of the laser diode by utilizing the temperature dependence of the laser wavelength. The TED350's PID controls are conveniently located on the front panel for easy access when optimizing the controller's response for particular applications. The proportional gain optimizes the response time of the feedback loop, while the integral gain provides precise zero-offset regulation. The derivative gain optimizes the dynamic response of the feedback loop to account for rapid changes in the thermal load.

Safety is a top priority with the TED350, which is equipped with several protective measures to promote maximum protection of the TEC element. An LED indicator signals that the driver is activated, and an adjustable TEC output current limit prevents the controller from overdriving the TEC element. The TED350 also offers protection for the DUT by sensor failure, contact open circuit protection of the TEC element, separate over-temperature protection, temperature-window protection for the laser diode, mains filter, line failure protection, and a key-operated power control switch.
