The TED8040 by ThorLabs is a PRO8 TEC Controller Module that is designed to provide precision temperature control for a range of applications. The TED8040 is specifically designed to work with compatible PRO8 chassis, providing exceptional temperature stabilization for optimal laser operation and other applications that require precise thermal management.

With a typical temperature stabilization range of ±0.001 °C, the TED8040 ensures that components that are sensitive to temperature operate with high stability, like an optical nonlinear birefringent crystal. It enables sensitive control of the crystal's temperature, which is crucial for phase matching. The temperature control loop P, I, and D settings can be adjusted independently, allowing for settling times that are optimal for various thermal loads.

The TED8040 is an ideal companion to the LDC8000 controller module, providing temperature window protection that turns the current of the laser diode off if the temperature exceeds low and high threshold limits that are defined by the user. An adjustable TEC current limit can be set to prevent the TEC cooler from damage. This limit can be adjusted via a the front panel of the module with a recessed potentiometer, front panel soft keys, or one of the standard interfaces. The TED8040 meets standards that are extremely high, regarding drift performance and precision, providing a bipolar output that exhibits low noise and enables safe thermal load management and stable wavelength control.

The TED8040 can be operated with a range of sensors, including thermistors, IC sensors, and transducers. When used alongside a thermistor, this controller module allows for direct temperature readings in °C, rather than Ω. It can also be fitted to ultra-low temperature applications, such as lead-salt lasers, where only heating is required. The TED8040 is user-friendly, with all operational parameters easily accessible via the PRO8 display menu on a compatible chassis. Configuration can be done using mnemonic symbols and simple prompts, and all settings are stored in memory and recalled automatically when the mainframe is powered on, as long as no module is transferred to another slot.
