The DM12 by ThorLabs is a differential adjuster designed to provide precision control in a wide range of applications. This adjuster boasts a standard Ø3/8" (Ø9.5 mm) mounting barrel and utilizes two leadscrews to deliver highly accurate and reliable performance. The DM12's leadscrews function in tandem to achieve an incredibly fine level of control. The first leadscrew moves the center spindle forwards by 400 μm in each revolution, and the second one pulls it back by 375 μm with every turn. As a result, the center spindle has 25 μm of total forward motion for each graduated knob complete revolution.

The DM12's fine control knob is also highly precise, with each small graduation on the knob measuring 0.5 μm. This means that the smallest incremental move for the adjuster is approximately 0.5 μm, allowing for truly precise adjustments to be made. Additionally, the coarse travel of the adjuster is lockable via a thumbscrew located on the mounting barrel. When unlocked, the coarse adjustment provides 0.5 mm per revolution - making it easy to make larger, less precise adjustments when necessary. It is worth noting that if the fine adjustment knob on the DM12 is ever removed from the actuator body, it can be easily reattached.
