The DM22 by ThorLabs is a highly advanced differential adjuster designed specifically for optic mounts. The DM22 incorporates two leadscrews that are internal and work in tandem to achieve the precise motion needed for optimal optics performance. One of the leadscrews makes for the forward motion of the center spindle at a 400 µm rate per revolution and the other leadscrew moves it backward at a 375 µm rate per revolution. With one total rotation of the knob, the center spindle's total linear travel is only 25 µm. Each small graduation on the fine control knob corresponds to an adjustment of just 0.5 µm, with the smallest incremental move being approximately 50 nm.

The DM22 also boasts an impressive on-axis load capacity of 11 lbs and a fine adjustment range of 250 µm. During fine adjustment, a small locking collar can be used to lock the coarse adjustment mechanism with ease. Prior to undergoing installation, it is recommended that the DM22 be lightly greased. When screwing the threads into the bushing by hand, extra care should be taken in order to avoid cross threading, which in turn could result in damage to both the adjuster and the bushing.

It is worth noting that if the fine adjustment knob on the DM22 is ever removed from the actuator body, it can be reattached with a few simple steps. Additionally, in the event that the fine adjustment knob is backed out beyond the witness line and the adjuster is no longer functioning correctly, it can be returned to proper operating condition by following a few simple steps. The knob should be removed, axial pressure should be applied to the end of the differential adjuster at a specified point, and then the threads should be engaged by completing 5-6 revolutions of the knob until it is re-attached. Once re-attached, the pressure can be released, and the adjuster knob can be rotated until the witness is no longer visible. To ensure proper functioning of the DM22, it is recommended that the knob not be backed out beyond the witness line, which will help prevent issues from reoccurring.
