The ThorLabs DTS50/M is a dovetail translation stage designed for use in general motion control and positioning applications, serving as an entry-level positioner. The DTS50/M offers a 1 mm (0.04") travel per revolution of the adjuster with a travel range of 50 mm (2"). The design of the stage utilizes a precision-rolled M6 x 1.0 mm pitch lead screw, ensuring smooth linear positioning across the entire range of travel. The moving platform is lockable via a side-located screw to prevent accidental movement and ensure accuracy.

The DTS50/M can be bolted directly to an optical table or secured using four CL6 clamps. When combined with DTSA1 or DTSA2 base plates, extra space is created between the mounting surface and the DTS50/M stage. The modular design of the stage allows for two stages to be assembled into 2-axis and 3-axis configurations, while compatibility with dowels ensures perpendicularity between the two translation directions is maintained.

For additional versatility when mounting the DTS50/M stage onto a work surface, a base plate and angle bracket can be used in horizontal or vertical mounting configurations. When positioning the stage close to other objects, it is important to make sure that the movement of the travelling platform is not hindered. The range of travel is 50 mm total, with ± 25 mm about the nominal position. The DTS50/M is also compatible with a plate that can be fitted to the side, which can lock the carriage in applications where accidental adjustment is undesirable. The locking screw on these plates should be loosened before the stage is used.

To operate the DTS50/M, simply turn the adjuster clockwise or anticlockwise to move the top platform forward or backward, respectively. The lead screw's 1 mm pitch ensures that the top platform will move 1 mm (0.04") per revolution of the adjuster. A graduated scale is etched onto each side of the moving platform, allowing for precise positioning with ease. Additionally, since the DTS50/M is a metric stage, it features 1 millimeter graduations, unlike imperial stages that have 1/40" graduations. Moreover, the DTS50/M can be translated into X or XY configurations, increasing the versatility of the stage.
