The GNL18/M by ThorLabs is a goniometer that is designed to offer maximum precision when rotating objects around a fixed point in limited angular ranges.. The GNL18/M stage differs from linear stages in that it partially rotates around a fixed point above the mounting surface. This allows for greater mobility, as opposed to just linear movement.

The GNL18/M utilizes a micrometer that is precise for enhanced top plate angular positioning, providing a pure rotational motion that is unobstructed about the angle of rotation point of rotation. The distance between the mounting surface and the point of rotation was purposefully designed so that a XY configuration can be achieved when two different goniometer models are stacked. Both of these stages will in turn rotate simultaneously around a common point. Additionally, the GNL18/M can be mounted underneath the GNL10 stage mount.

The GNL18/M is designed with the utmost accuracy, featuring a dovetail system, eliminating backlashes, and a vernier scale for precise measurements. These features provide accurate and repeatable positioning, ensuring consistent and reliable results. Moreover, a set screw that is mounted on the side and can be utilized to keep the platform steady with a locking mechanism, minimizing the possibility of any unintended movement. The GNL18/M features a variety of taps for mounting including four 4-40 (M2.5 x 0.45), eight 6-32 (M3 x 0.5), and four 2-56 taps. The goniometer is designed to easily attach to mini-series or standard breadboards, with the help of 1/4"-20 (M6) taps through the 1/4" (M6) slotted holes at its bottom plate. The GNL18/M also features 1° graduation marks on the side of the goniometer, making it easy to read and adjust the position accurately.
