The KDC101 by ThorLabs is a high-performance K-Cube brushed DC motor controller that delivers smooth and precise control of DC servo motors. It offers an easy-to-use interface for both automatic and manual control of a single motor axis, making it ideal for a variety of applications in research and industrial settings.

With its optimized design, the KDC101 is capable of driving a wide range of low-powered DC brushed motors (up to 15 V/2.5 W operation) equipped with encoder feedback. It also supports operation with a broad selection of DC servo motors, stages, and actuators. This operation is feasible due to the device’s closed-loop tuning capabilities and various software settings that are flexible. Another feature of the KDC101 is a top-mounted control panel, which includes a velocity wheel for four-speed bidirectional control with forward and reverse jogging, as well as position presets. The digital display on the top panel is backlit and can be dimmed or turned off using the top panel menu options for added convenience.

Additionally, the KDC101 has two bidirectional trigger ports on the front that can be configured independently to control external equipment or read a 5 V external logic signal. This functionality adds versatility to the KDC101 and makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. The KDC101 is a small device, measuring just 60.0mm x 60.0mm x 49.2mm, making it very easy to place close to a motorized system for manual position adjustments using the controls located at the top panel. Its ability to be operated via tabletop also ensures minimal drive cable lengths for easier cable management.

The KDC101 features USB connectivity, making it easy to integrate with either APT or Kinesis software for 'Plug-and-Play' PC-controlled operation. It is also equipped with a front-located power switch that saves all user-adjustable settings when turned off, ensuring ease of use and maximum convenience. Finally, the KDC101 comes with a mounting plate that clips onto the base, making it easy to mount on an optical table or tabletop. The plate contains two magnets for temporary placement and two counterbores for 1/4"-20 (M6) cap screws for more permanent installation.
